Vanessa dances like she is the only one in the room. She is centered and poised, sinuous and fluid. Her movements are confident, sure: every turn, every jump, every pause, has a purpose. Her body translates the tunes, the lyrics of the songs.

Ji-hye dances like she and Vanessa are the only ones in the room. She reads the movements of Vanessa’s body and answers them. She is the counter rhythm, the complement to Vanessa. When they dance they touch and brush and slide together, so seamless and perfect.

This is why Ji-hye never asks, “Do you love me?” and why Vanessa rarely says, “I love you.” Instead, she draws Ji-hye onto the floor, and they begin to dance. Both of them know that love is not three words, not candies, not flowers; love is knowing where to move, when to step, so that their bodies come together perfectly in sync.
