Ethan/Xuan - #5: Trickery; Magic
Omigod, Xuan breaks school rules.
*
Ethan grabs Xuan's arm in the locker room while everyone else is changing for P.E. and drags him out the door. "Come on, we're going to Yogurt Heaven."
"Yogurt what? And we have to go to class. We can't just ditch."
"We are ditching. Just chill, Xuan."
"But--"
"You'll still have straight A's, and I'll still pass my classes."
"How--"
"Lynn's already waiting in her car. Hurry up, we have to sneak through the Accounting class."
Xuan doesn't have time to protest, because Ethan is hustling him into the Accounting class, right to the back.
The teacher, Mr. Holden, doesn't even look up from his desk as they cross the door that leads into the parking lot. "Free period, Ethan?"
"P.E."
"Oh. Same thing. Have fun!"
Xuan gapes. "What kind of teacher is he? I can't believe he just let you walk out like that!"
"Mr. Holden doesn't believe in the importance of physical education."
"But letting you sneak off campus is a totally different thing!"
"Mr. Holden does believe in senior privileges. Lots of them."
"Neither of us have senior privileges," Xuan points out.
Ethan prods Xuan in the direction fo Lynn's car, where she is already waiting. "We're seniors, so therefore we have senior privileges," he says, and ignores all of Xuan's arguments that this is the stupidest thing he's ever done.

Xuan refuses to buy anything at Yogurt Heaven. "I can't believe we're skipping class."
"Why did you come? You didn't have to," Lynn says.
Xuan kicks Ethan's leg. "Ethan just dragged me out of the locker room!"
"And you didn't put up a fight?"
"Well." Xuan blushes. "I didn't--I don't know why!"
"Say 'ahhh,'" Ethan says, and spoons a mouthful of chocolate into Xuan's mouth.
Xuan swallows. Then he says, "I hate chocolate."
"Grumpy bastard." Ethan punches Xuan's shoulder. "Is this the thanks I get for trying to help you relax?"
"How can I relax when I'm breaking multiple school rules?!"
Lynn mixes some of the plain tart flavor with the strawberry banana. "You're not breaking multiple school rules. You're only breaking one."
"And that's supposed to be a good thing?"
"Here," Ethan says. "Try some green tea." He has to prod Xuan's mouth open with the spoon.
"That's disgusting."
Ethan rolls his eyes. "I give up."
Lynn says, "I told you he wouldn't like this."
"Yeah, yeah. I just thought he could use a little fun." Ethan jabs his yogurt angrily, and Xuan remembers that he told Ethan the other day that his childhood was sadly devoid of any fun.
Sighing, he takes the spoon from Ethan. "Don't waste your yogurt like that. And for the record, I like vanilla, not chocolate. Or green tea." He eats some of the vanilla, carefully avoiding the M&M's and brownie chunks Ethan has scattered all over the yogurt.
"I knew you would like this," Ethan says smugly.
"This is still the stupidest thing I have ever done. Ever."
"But it's fun, right?"
Xuan is silent for a moment. Then he says, "Maybe," and Ethan smiles.
